Ashley is a lifelong equestrian. She showed nationally as a teenager and began teaching riding lessons in her early teens. Ashley’s family was struck by tragedy when Ashley’s 18 year old brother Michael “Dash” Nunn died suddenly and unexpectedly. Ashley was 15.
As the trajectory of Ashley’s life changed, she let go of her beloved horses. Some 15 years later, at a particularly low and challenging point in Ashley’s life, she attended her first (of 4 so far!) 10 day Vipassana meditation retreat. This was a life changing, life affirming ten days for Ashley and again her trajectory changed, but this time for the better.
In 2004, Ashley became a certified yoga instructor, receiving her teacher training from her dear late teacher, Larry Schultz. Ashley holds a masters degree in marriage and family therapy and art therapy. Ashley has worked as an art therapist, an equine assisted therapist and a yoga instructor in a variety of mental health, treatment and recovery settings. She began holding equine facilitated mindfulness retreats for the general public in northern Virginia in 2011.
2011 was a big year for Ashley, in addition to beginning Black Horse Retreats, she married her soulmate (really!)! He came with two amazing children who Ashley couldn’t love more if they were her own.
